Takashi Miike Movie AUDITION : Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) decides he needs a wife and his
friend offers to hold an AUDITION for a bogus role in a bogus film for him to select his future wife!
He becomes infatuated with Asami Yamazaki (Eihi Shiina) who proves to be more than he bargained for!
Hellacious Movies Movie Review : AUDITION has a slow but calculated pace! Like most movie goers
I wanted instant gratification! I had to remind myself that the trip is not about the destination, it is about the
journey! If you came for nothing more than unbridled gore you will be greatly disappointed! If you came for an
experience, a story, and are predisposed to applying the reasoning behind the perceived message that resonates
throughout the movie than you will not be disappointed! I am not particularly fond of this film! But I can fully
appreciate the message I took away from it!
While there are some disturbing elements in the film, you are not overwhelmed with it! In fact Director Takashi
Miike was very stingy with the horror aspects attributed to AUDITION! Again this movie was all about calculated
skillful moves to enhance and build upon the mystery and heightening suspense! The artist did not paint big broad strokes
aggressively across the canvase! On the contrary his strokes were meticulous, calculated and purposely understated!
Most horror movies do not elicit the gag reflex, however one brief scene managed to turn my stomach! Later
that day I had read that the actress Eihi Shiina was a method actor and that the disturbing element in the
scene was much to my chagrin grotesquely real! My stomach is churning again just thinking about it!
This is a FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM - Be sure to enable ENGLISH SUBTITLES!
