Hellacious Movies Movie Review : MARTYRS is a very dark film! Pascal Laugier takes
us all on a journey to places no one wants to visit muchless linger for 99 minutes! To
fully embrace the experience that is Martyrs you must see beyond the violence and horror
for it is simply a means to an end! The story was written from a very dark place within a
very dark director! This is the 2nd full length feature film from Pascal Laugier which
excites me beyond belief! A man that is able to capture such depth of pain and depravity
of humanity so early in his career makes me salivate in anticipation of his future films!
Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) is going to direct the Martyrs remake! I am not particularly
fond of that idea as he intends to americanize the film, ugh that cannot be good! He states
the darkness of the film will remain in tact but he wants to lighten up the ending a tad by
offering a ray of hope! Which in my opinion defeats the whole pupose of the original film!
Hollywood is like a cheap gin joint watering down its drinks in order to satiate the masses!
